Quite clean, no marks, light wear to corners and spine head, spine heel lightly scuffed. Tight and solid sewn binding. Rough cut on fore edge and bottom edge. Former owner inscription on endpaper. Contents page signature loose from binding. Frontis: colour illustration "Multiplex Man". Seven full color illustrations. Over 100 b/w illustrations throughout, by van Loon. Pages are clean, unmarked, no creases-heavy paper. A handsome volume. In his own inimitable style, van Loon tells and illustrates the history of inventions and its relation to man's progress on earth.
