James Ballantyne, Edinburgh, 1812. Fifth edition. 282,434,471pp. Bound in full brown calf leather with decorated gilt stamped spines and board edges. Marbled pages edges and endpapers. Blue reading ribbon. Owner's bookplate to front pastedown of each volume. Volume 1 has cracked hinge but still holding; remainder of binding is secure in all 3 volumes. Light foxing marks to preliminaries with a few pin prick size foxing marks outside of text block. Pages remain clean, bright without tears or folds. Light rubbing and wear to boards and edges. Minstrelsy marked Scott's true literary debut, written and published as a collection of the traditional ballads that Scott had been collecting in yearly trips to the Borders since 1792.
