First edition with signed dedication to Desmond MacCarthy (British writer, member of the Bloomsbury group & critic) by author. 8vo, coloured illustrated dust jacket by P Vinten over blue grey boards with gilt titles on spine. Upper edge red. Some chipping / tears to edges of the unclipped dust jacket, lower part of jacket at spine absent with a couple of repairs. 252pp. Frontispiece illustration of Radnor Terrace, Sandgate slightly damaged (see pictures), other illustrations at the front of each section throughout the text. Very good and clean inside. Part 2 of the Orchid Trilogy. Part fiction and part autobiography. ‘Childhood, soldiering and travel are recurring themes, together with a range of incidental topics.’
