About This Item
NY: Random House. As New in As New dust jacket. 1994. 1st Edition. Later Printing. Hard Cover. 0679429220 . First edition, later printing (Number Line 198765432). Quarter bound in publisher's black cloth over black boards, gilt lettering on spine, author's initials, gilt, on cover. Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative reads like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction. Berendt skillfully interweaves a hugely entertaining first-person account of life in this isolated remnant of the Old South with the unpredictable twists and turns of a landmark murder case.. Both the volume and the unclipped dust jacket (now in Mylar) are in perfect, pristine condition; unread, unmarked, tight, square, and clean. AS NEW/AS NEW.. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 388, (2) pp .

This book has everything one wants in a good read: A mystery, a terrific and unique geographical place, amazing and eccentric characters and a very well written story told by an excellent narrator and observer. Plus it is based on real events which if this were fiction--would seem unbelievable. The movie is a pale echo so do read the book and only see the movie for Lady Chablis's appearance.
