This issue of "New Formations", edited by Judith Squires in association with "Signs of the Times", is based on a one-day conference in London in June 1995, organized by "Signs of the Times" to mark the tenth anniversary of Michel Foucault's death. Among the contributors are Foucault's biographers James Miller and David Macey, John Rajchman, Kate Soper, Sue Golding and Robert J. C. Young.. The writers consider Foucault's philosophy, politics and poetics and his legacy from a variety of different points of view. Judith Squires writes in her editorial: "I take it as a rather positive 'sign of the times' that the contributors to this issue...have all resisted the tendency to commemorate and revere Foucault, in favour of a more dissonant and experimental use of his thought to pursue varied agendas of current concern...."
