About This Item

Berkeley: University of California Press, 1990. Hardcover. xxii, 829p., illustrated with contemporary b&w snapshot photography, a vivid color section of masks, and several line maps. Levy started out in Tahiti and somehow gravitated to Kathmandu Valley. Hardbound in 9x6 inch blue cloth boards gilt and enclosed in the dust jacket. Top and tail rims of the cloth casing are crimped from handling (no tears or fray), and the foredge bears mild thumb-soil; the dj is edgeworn with small chips. Endpaper maps (dittos). The sole flaw to book itself is a faint slantways crease-line affecting preliminaries and the first dozen leaves or so, an aesthetic matter only. Good to very good copy of the true first issue. FYI, the term "Newar" is most easily thought of as a local word meaning Nepal; see pp 14-15.
