Publisher's tan cloth. Titles beautifully set out in gilt to the front board and spine with two strips of blind tooling travelling from the back to the front boards, including the spine. Pale yellow endpapers. A little bumping to the spine and corners with some sunning to the spine area. Lovely pages, slightly toned with just a few foxing marks here and there; very good indeed. A group of Russian and English scientists travel through the Kalahari desert in order to accurately measure the circumference of the Earth, only to discover in the middle of their work that their two countries have gone to war... First translated into English in 1872. Myers.

Publisher's puce cloth with gilt and black titles and decoration to spine and upper. All edges gilt. Repairs to starting hinges. Somewhat shaken. Moderate rubbing to cloth. Very good. A group of Russian and English scientists travel through the Kalahari desert in order to accurately measure the circumference of the Earth, only to discover in the middle of their work that their two countries have gone to war... This first English translation was originally published in 1872.
