About This Item
London: George Newnes Ltd - Caxton Series, 1901. Hardcover, 1st thus, one of only 25 copies printed on Japanese Vellum. Un-numbered. Gray-brown boards with contrasting cream spine, gilt titles. Endpapers illustrated in art deco style. Numerous illustrations by Jones. Page 125, "gazing on the sullen tree" in later editions corrected to "thee sullen tree", thus indicating that this is the first state. Condition issues: The boards present both shelf and edgewear, and there are some smudges on the cream-coloured portions of the covers. One note discssing the "thee sullen tree" tipped in and glused onto the front endpaper. Interior clean and bright, sound binding. If there was a tissue guard at title page, it is no longer there. Also, there was likely a silk ribbon placemarker at one time, also no longer present. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. Illus. by Jones, Alfred Garth .
