About This Item

True first edition, dated 1842. The book is in good condition for its age. Pages have light spotting and light foxing, mostly along margins. Most pages are free of blemishes. The engravings are clear and mostly without blemishes. Many interesting illustrations of these early inventions as well as portraits of the inventors. The major problems with the book are that the cover shows much wear, There is a severe stain on the bottom half of the first dozen pages or so, the front cover separated and has been repaired (with tape) and the spine cover was entirely missing (spine has been covered with tape). The inside covers are marked and page 25/26 is missing.

Brief biographies of American and European inventors along with descriptions of their inventions. Henry Howe was a prominent American historian in the mid-19th century. .
