About This Item

London: Priestley and Weale. This is a Good Copy of this Book in full rich brown leather (Calf) binding with black moroccan title label to the second compartment to spine lettered in gilt. There are five raised bands to spine each adorned in gilt. The book has bright marbled endpapers with marbled page edges with gilt embossed borders to the outer boards. There is some fraying and scuffing to the leather around the head of spine. There are a total of 11 wonderful plates many of which are folding plans and drawings. There is a frontispiece of Sir Christopher Wren to the verso of the Title Page. There is just one small and neat previous owner's address label affixed to one of the blank front endpapers. The binding of the book remains firm with no hinge weakness and there are no loose pages. It's a nice tight firm square copy.As you would expect there is some browning and foxing to the pre-lims and some sporadic foxing spots in the internal text block but nothing major and the book has survived it's natural longevity in nice order. This is a real collector's item in a total of three parts and of genuine interest to architects, historians or simply those among us who love to collect old and rather interesting books. It's rather heavy at over 2kg Large quarto measures 11'' by 9'' (xxxvi) 532pp plus 147pp Appendix and Index First Edition [1823] Sir Christopher Wren: Sir Christopher Wren was an English anatomist, astronomer, geometer, and mathematician-physicist, as well as one of the most highly acclaimed English architects in history born in 1632 and died in 1723.... perhaps his greatest legacy being St Paul's Cathedral finally completed in 1710. .
