Ex-library of the University of Southern California, with pictorial book plate of The Allan Hancock Foundation to front free end paper. There is a (presumably) later label of the Boston Society of Natural History dated 1911 to front paste down. The folding map is laid in to the rear, without its pocket. Co-authors (as credited on the title page): John Horne, the late W. Gunn, C.T. Clough, and L.W. Hinxman, with petrological chapters by J J H Teall. Archibald Geikie was series editor. Original dark blue boards (gilt motif) and gilt titles to spine. All plates present as called for. These include many from photographs in the main body of the work and photomicrographs in an Appendix. Condition notes: Library markings inside and out, tape reinforcement to front end papers, wear to spine strip, with splitting along joint for a couple of inches and loss at top edge. Boards worn and rubbed. However, this is a solid, unmarked, complete copy, with plates in excellent condition. The map is clean and bright but worn through along two of the folds.
