About This Item
York: Ken Spelman, 1988 8vo (24 cm), xiii, vi, 397 pp. Publisher's cloth and dust jacket. Robert Davies' Memoir of the York Press was published in 1868 in relatively small edition. It was only the second history of a provincial center of printing in England. The book covers in great detail the authors, printers and stationers in York in the 16th - 18th centuries and gives full collations of books and pamphlets printed. Bernard Barr has written a new introduction to this reprint, with a memoir of Robert Davies and full bibliography of his works.
