Hardcover Book in Very Good Condition, no dust jacket. 20 historic illustrations on coated paper. Black cloth with rcameo of Grant on front, red title panel on gilt decorated spine, with gilt titles within. Slight wear to extremities, top edge red tinted, rough cut on fore-edge and lower edge. Former owner name on endpaper. Pages very clean, no markings, no creasing. Ulysses S. Grant, General and President. General Grant brought the Civil War to a victorious close--although at the beginning, he was a "shabby nobody who could hardly make a living". He had no influence with those at the top--but after four years of war, he had risen to first place in the nation's military establishment--he had amazing success at winning battles. His is an interesting life--and he remained fair and generous in war and in peace. 524 pages, indexed. 5.75 x 8.75 inches. 1946, Liveright Publishing Corporation, New York.
