Wismar (Germany): Hinstorff'sche Hofbuchhandlung Verlagsconto, 1898. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo. viii, 290 pages, indexed. Hardcover bound in original green decorative cloth with pictorial cover designs in tan, green and white and letters in tan and black. Housed in original worn slipcase with a paper label on the side. Light wear to the binding, and inner hinges secure. An early notation is written on the rear cover in white crayon or chalk. Early owner's inscription on the verso of the front flyleaf (in German). The fore edge of the front flyleaf is damped, but this does not seem to affect the interior of the book, nor is it evident on the exterior. The text is a little toned but generally clean. This is not an illustrated work, but there is a foldout chart of table placements at the rear. Laid in loosely is a folded sheet of 19th century (?) writing in German, likely some additional home recipes. There is also an old dried flower laid in loosely with some tanning to the paper. Text is in German old style "black letter" type. A rough translation of the title into English is, "Mecklenburg Cookbook for the Stately, as well as for the Finer Middle-Class Cuisine." An attractive copy and scarce in the original slipcase.
