London: Jonathan Cape,, 1988. Inscribed by the author Octavo. Original red boards, titles to spine in gilt. With the dust jacket. Illustrations by Quentin Blake. A fine copy in the jacket with a little sunning to spine, else bright. First edition, first impression, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "Camilla, love Roald Dahl". Matilda won the Children's Book Award in the year of its publication. It formed the basis for both the 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito and the successful stage musical which premiered at the RSC's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010.
