Verne's epic Mediterranean adventure, employing the devices that served him well in other novels: islands, mystery, cryptograms, surprises, mistaken identity, technological advances, and a solitary figure bent on revenge. Sandorf may remind readers of the Count of Monte Cristo and, not surprisingly, Verne did dedicate the work to Alexandre Dumas. Later Verne adapted the story into a five-act play in collaboration with William Busnach and George Maures. Myers 38. Taves and Michaluk V028.
