WITH [Index) Stapled pamphlet 23 pp., 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". Together TWO items. Well used, somewhat loose, but still fundamentally sound. Text block sagging in the binding. Minor soiling overall. Sticker mark on front flyleaf. Cloth. Orignally published in Cambridge at the University Press (for the Institute of Navigation) in 1966. This is a quality reprint by the Gemmary done in 1989 (Harriet Wynter Ltd published the name index in 1980).

Part I contains an extensive narrative of different historical periods from Chapter One (1714-1730) through Chapter VIII (1820-1840). Part II (pages 108-485) is a list of The Practitioners with Biographical notes.

Essential reference for any scholar interested in this field. There is a separately published companion volume "The Mathematical Practitioners of Tudor & Stuart England 1485-1714" which is worth obtaining as a companion volume.
