About This Item

Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1911. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Octavo, 6 volumes, illustrated. A crisp, clean, lovely set in the publisher's green cloth; near fine. All six volumes published far apart, over the course of 29 years; the final three volumes posthumously. Spines just a tinge cocked, but a crisp, sturdy set, with a few nicks to the corners and outer joints, but otherwise no notable defects. Numerous fold-outs mostly appear unopened. Contemporary owner's name on the front free endpaper of the first three volumes (small). Sir William Thomson grew up middle class, but after his seemingly endless achievements in the field of science, mathematics, and engineering, was elevated to the title of Lord Kelvin, and served in the House of Lords. This set collects all of his important writings in the fields of mathematics and physics, nearly all of which were published in journals and periodicals; as such, an invaluable resource. Complete sets of all six volumes are scarce in commerce, particularly in choice condition, in their original bindings, and without library markings.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
