About This Item
Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, 1885. Edition Unstated. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good- Condition. Book Library-bound copy of the monograph from Johns Hopkins University Studies in Historical and Political Science. Number I of the Third Series, published in January 1885. The paper was originally published in 1877 by the Maryland Historical Society. The library binding is probably the reason this copy has survived since the paper is fragile. The subtitle is: With minor papers on George Washington's Interest in Western Lands, the Potomac Company and a National University. The paper traces "the influence of Maryland in securing a general cession of western territory for the public good" (p. 8) -- the land which became known as the Northwest Territory. The main paper runs 54 pp. The paper on Washington's Interest is on pp. 55-77. The paper on his interest in the Potomac Company is on pp. 79-91 and that on his plan for a National University is on pp 93-102 Size: 8"-9" - Octavo (8vo). 102 pages. Item Type: Book. Green library buckram over boards wth title in gilt on the spine. No foxing in this copy. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. The paper of the text is brittle. The first few pages are torn along the binding, mainly the bottom half. The leaves for pp. 11-12 and 19-20 are almost completely separated, but still holding. From p. 20 on the pages are more securely bound in, but need to be handled gently to avoid further damage. Text and spine marked with Library stamps, library pocket inside book, stamps throughout and/or other library markings. Quantity Available: 1.
