Illustrated dustwrapper red and white coloured titles to the front panel and red and black coloured titles to the backstrip. Set in the isolated goldmining town Charleston on the west coast of New Zealand in the 1870s. Mary Black and her young son Christopher were left in the town after tragic circumstances. They found solace Mary Smith and the hotel that she ran. It was the miners who took the place of Christopher's father, but, it was Mary Smith who became his mother when his own remarried and left New Zealand. Chipping to the top dustwrapper edge with rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels. Sunning to the backstrip and rear panel, with quite noticeable handling marks to the rear panel.
