Gilt-stamped leather-covered boards, all edges gilt, satin pagemarker. Issued without dustjacket. Inscribed by Updike on the front free endpage. "for John Hawkins my esteemed 'other' editor - with gratitude and warm regards John Updike." Hawkins was Updike's editor for his Franklin Library publications. Marrry Me was their first collaboration. Also includes the publisher's "Notes from the Editors" booklet illustrated by David Blossom. The booklet has faint beginning edge toning; the book has a spot of wear on the foreedge gilt and minimal shelfwear (not immediately apparent); it is an unread copy in Near Fine condition.. Inscribed by Author. Hardcovers. Near Fine/Not Issued. Illus. by Barbara Fox. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Association Copy.

Synopsis

John Updike was born in Shillington, Pennsylvania, in 1932. He graduated from Harvard College in 1954 and spent a year in Oxford, England, at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art. From 1955 to 1957 he was a member of the staff of The New Yorker . His novels have won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Rosenthal Foundation Award, and the William Dean Howells Medal. In 2007 he received the Gold Medal for Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. John Updike died in January 2009.
