Small folio. 10.75 x 13.75 in. Portfolio of 29 individual leaves of poetry (17 poems total) by William Benton and 6 original intaglio prints by James McGarrell, each print numbered and signed. Contents laid into a handmade portfolio of grey checker patterned boards, as issued. Number 9 of 50 copies, signed by Benton and McGarrell on the colophon. Additionally laid in are the prospectus and the original wraparound band. Benton's poems are versions of but not literal translations of Mallarmé. Rare, lovely portfolio.

A prospectus for [the full title] MARMALADE: DRIFTS, GISTS, VERSIONS, DRAFTS & TAKES from the poems of Stephane Mallarme. Poems by William Benton and Intaglios by James McGarrell. The prospectus reads (in part) "This suite is limited to 50 copies, presented in handmade portfolios." A trade edition of the same title was later issued by George Adams Gallery Press (1997). A fine copy of the prospectus only, printed on one sheet of card stock and folded to create four pages. Specially signed in year of issue.
