New York: Harper & Brothers, 1912. Leather. 3 vols., 1719p total. FINE BINDING FROM THE BOOKENDS BINDERY. A set of three hardcover books beautifully bound in 3/4 crushed red morocco with marbled boards and endpapers. The spines have five raised bands each and are ornately decorated in gilt. The top foredges are trimmed in gilt as well. FINE CONDITION, AS IF NEW! The exteriors are smooth and clean, and the pages are bright white and crisp, with no markings or foxing in the text. Just a tiny, faint spot on the side foredge of volume II, half an inch from the top. The page blocks are securely bound. Sturdy, attractive, and highly collectible! Illustrated with lots of black and white plates. This copy is from the library of Governor Charles Edison of New Jersey; his name is stamped in gilt on the front cover turn-in. Charles was the son of inventor Thomas Edison and U.S. Secretary of the Navy under Franklin Roosevelt.
