About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Grosset and Dunlap, 1910. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Fair/Good. Book # 4 (of 6) in the author's second bestselling series of children's books from the early 20th-century, designed as "happy books for happy girls,'' written especially for "her majesty the little American girl." These featured a plucky 12-year girl, Marjorie Maynard, who is "up to mischief, but full of goodness & sincerity,'' as she embarks on a new adventure in each book. Here, she takes control while her parents go on a journey to the South. This is a FIRST EDITION, unknown printing, from 1910, with the First State DJ (with black-and white engraved illustration to center front, inside a red-rimmed box, lettered in black). Bound in light gray cloth lettered in dark blue to front & spine, this hardcover 8vo has 268 pages + ads for other series titles in rear, glossy frontispiece (author unattributed). Condition is Fair: generally quite clean, but downgraded due to water damage to outer-upper edges of both boards, with corresponding light dampstaining to a few page edges in front matter. Bright, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning to edges, but unmarked. Moderate rubbing to extremities, bumping to both corners & ends of spine. The unclipped DJ is Good, with same dampstaining & some small chips to spine tips & corners; nicely protected in nonreflective mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
