Chicago, Illinois.: Privately published.. Very Good. 1922. First Edition. Hardcover. 24mo - 13.5 x 9 cm.; 311 pp. Black leather over thin and flexible boards with gilt lettering on the spine and the front board. Faux panelled spine with 5 panels and 4 ribs and a single blind stamped border rule on the front and back boards. All text block edges are gilt (fore and tail edges are a tad dulled), the text block fore corners are rounded, and a purple book mark ribbon set into the headband all as issued. Sepia toned frontis piece of the "Queen of the Holy Rosary" and two other sepia toned plates; facing page 38, "John consoling Mary", and facing page 190, "Jesus in the Home of Martha and Mary". From the title page: "The Marianum is an association of the Priests' Housekeepers who join the Third Order of St. Dominic or St. Francis and who try to make annual retreats." The text of the Mass prayers (the Ordinary) is in both Latin and English, printed 2 columns per page. The book shows very little wear per se with the excpetion of the front board which has 4 smallish flattened sections in the textured leather as though something was pressing down or resting there for awhile. These impression marks are on the outside only and are not present on the inside of the front board. Otherwise the book is clean with a sound binding. This book was printed (and bound?) at the Torch Editorial Rooms of Chicago (from a note on the acknowledgement page). A quite uncommon devotional work for a specific vocational calling. The first and probably only edition. .
