About This Item
New York: Military Publishing Company , 1914. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 24mo - over 5 - 5¾" tall. 24mo. 88 pages. A small book measuring 5 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches wide. Hardcover bound in black cloth. There is light wear to the binding, which is bumped at the corners and chipped along the bottom edge of the front cover. The text is toned but clean and sound. Signed on the front flyleaf by "James M. Southall, 1st Battery." This appears to be James Morton Southall (1893-1951), the son of Charles Morton Southall and Ida May Hester. Charles Morton Southall was a noted Pharmacist in Florence who built "Southall Drugs" at 201 N. Court Street in Florence, Alabama (the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980). James Morton Southall registered for military service in 1917. He appears to have served in World War I with the 76th United States Field Artillery.
