Originally published in 1984 by William Collins Sons & Company. A mystery set in early eighteenth-century Drury Lane, "one of the most dangerous and volatile districts of London, where prostitutes solicit openly on the street-corners, beggar children sleep rough in the gutters and the busy gin-houses ply their raucous trade." In his boarded-up house a ruined entrepreneur is found tied to a chair, starved to death in a fashion reminiscent of the fate of plague victims fifty years previous, and a parish watchman must determine whether the plague has returned or whether this is a connection between the murder and the disappearance of the dead man's journals of the plague years. Spine a bit cocked, mild general wear. Dust jacket w/light general wear..
