About This Item

New York City, NY: Scribner, 2017. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Scribner, 2017. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 440 pages. The author's fifth novel. One of Jennifer Egan's finest achievements. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. "Autographed Copy" round white sticker pasted in front. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Jennifer Egan's "Manhattan Beach". Her first outing since winning the Pulitzer Prize: The very first, full-fledged historical novel from one of America's most talented and ambitious writers. "A deft, startling, intimate exploration of a transformative moment in the lives of women and men, America, and the world" (Publisher's blurb). "Dares to satisfy us in a way that stories of an earlier age used to" (The Washington Post). "Prose so transparent and elegant. But the chief joy of reading 'Manhattan Beach' lies in diving under the surface pleasures of the plot (which are plentiful, it's immersive and compelling) and sinking slowly to its dark and unknowable depths. There are deep truths there" (VOX). An absolute "must-have" title for Jennifer Egan collectors. This Autographed Copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in blue ink-pen on the publisher's tipped-in page by Jennifer Egan. It is also very boldly and beautifully signed, placed, and dated (in the year of publication) in blue pen-marker on the title page by the author: "11/30/17 NYC Jennifer Egan". It comes with a pristine copy of the Souvenir Material of the event during which her title-page signature was obtained. This title is a contemporary classic. As far as we know, this is the only such double-signed, placed, and publication-year dated copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 2011 for "A Visit From The Goon Squad". One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER JENNIFER EGAN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1476716730.

Reviews

On Jun 12 2020, a reader said:
A unipersonal saga covering several decades of the central character. The complexity of the plot is handled without error; the characters are clearly described; the reader is involved from the beggining, unputdownable! Only one terrible flaw: the author could not resist the temptation of giving the novel a happy end. Apparently, hollywood still dominates American culture. The plot and its masterful development does not admit a happy end. So sorry!
