Gundry writes in his introduction, "The thirty-two elegies to the memory of Francis Bacon which were printed a few months after his death in April, 1626 by John Haviland have not received the attention from scholars which they merit, and it is with the object of perpetuating them and drawing renewed attention to them that they are reproduced in facsimile in the present volume". Large square octavo. Original maroon cloth, gilt-lettered spine and front cover. With dust jacket. Illustrated with collotype reproductions from the original edition of 1626. Price-clipped jacket rather soiled and tatty, the book in excellent condition.
