About This Item

London: Macmillan, 1965 . First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". None. A well presented first edition of this exciting and touching novel by Muriel Spark. First edition, in the publisher's original cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Written by Muriel Spark, a Scottish novelist, poet and short-story writer known for her satire and wit, with which she presents serious themes. Set in Jerusalem in 1961, 'The Mandelbaum Gate' tells the story of Barbara Vaughan, a half Jewish Catholic-convert who must pass through the Mandelbaum Gate in Jerusalem to meet her fiance. Barbara enlists the help of Freddy Hamilton, a British diplomat who may or may not be what he seems. In the publisher's original cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely, with very light bumping to the extremities and the odd handling mark. Dust wrapper is excellent, with minor shelf wear and a touch of sunning to the extremities and to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine
