About This Item

London: Chapman & Hall, LTD, 1907. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 6". Charles G. Harper. The first edition of Charles George Harper's work on the road from London, Manchester, and Glasgow, illustrated throughout by the author. The first edition of this work. In two volumes. 'The Manchester and Glasgow Road' documents the journey by road from London to Manchester, and from Manchester to Glasgow via Gretna Green. The work also has useful information of the number of miles between London, Manchester, and Glasgow, as well as various places in between. Volume I with a frontispiece, sixteen plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. Volume II with a frontispiece, fourteen plates, and numerous in-text illustrations. Written and illustrated by Charles George Harper. Harper was an author and illustrator who published many travel books, most of which he illustrated himself. His travel works explored the roads, coastlines, inns, and literary connections of Britain. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. A very little marking to the boards. Front hinge of Volume II is starting but firm. Internally, binding of Volume I is lightly strained in places but remains firm, where as Volume II is generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with only the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Very Good
