About This Item
Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company Publishers, 1920. Later printing. Hardcover. Frank Verbeck. 236pp. Octavo [23 cm] Blue cloth over boards, with the title, author's last name, and publisher's imprint stamped in blue on the spine, and an illustrated paper label on the front board in blue, orange and red. Blank endpapers. Very good. The extremities are gently bumped and rubbed, and the spine is just a tiny bit rolled back. There is a small open tear in the top edge of the rear pastedown, and there is a child's large drawing in pencil on the verso of the last page of text. The text block is just a bit fragile in a couple of places. Bienvenue p. 112. With Pictures by Frank Verbeck, including 8 full-color inserts. A book previously published in 1900 as A New Wonderland, and the first full-length fantasy by L. Frank Baum for children. The book was actually written by Baum prior to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and introduced some ideas and characters that he would eventually rework in future books.
