Publisher's green cloth, title in gilt on spine. Lean to text block, light toning to cloth at edges. In exceptionally scarce dust jacket, some loss at spine, toning to covers, advertising on verso. An interesting piece from the Modern Library Series. Stephen Crane was a prolific American writer during the late 19th century. Most notable for his works in the "realist" tradition, he was an inspiration for writers throughout the 20th century, including Ernest Hemingway. He lived a short life, dying at the age of 28 in 1900.

Synopsis

Maggie: A Girl of the Streets is a novella by American author Stephen Crane. It depicts a poor family in a New York neighborhood, whose parents are drunk and abusive. As the children grow up, Maggie attempts to better herself, but is defeated by her desperate surrounds and the poverty of humanity surrounding her.
