Binding could benefit from some restoration or repair. Obviously intended to be a limited edition, but this copy is un-numbered. Pierre Jules Theophile Gautier (1811-1872) was a French poet, dramatist, novelist, journalist, and literary critic. An ardent defender of Romanticism, he was widely esteemed by writers as diverse as Balzac, Baudelaire, the Goncourt brothers, Flaubert and Oscar Wilde. This French romance of love and passion, includes elements of homosexual / lesbian eroticism - as a young woman, Mademoiselle de Maupin, dresses as a man to find out what men are all about before she becomes committed to one in marriage.
