London: G.P. Puttnam's Sons Translated by Ethel Colburn Mayne. Not dated but circa 1920's. Photogravure portrait of Madame De Pompadour from a plumbago drawing by Greuze to frontispiece tissue protected. Gilt crest to front with gilt title to spine on blue/grey cloth boards. A light mark to front, light fading to spine and a touch of wear to spine head and tail. Fore and lower edges uncut. Inscription dated June 1928 to front pastedown and partial darkening of endpapers else clean and unmarked. 185 pages. In the author's words 'I am not an Historian.... I am a portraitist fondly interested in my subject.' C3C. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Greuze. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
