E-163. Very Good. Hardcover. Hardcover. 8vo. Published by J. B. Lippincott Company, Philadelphia, PA. 1965. 256 pgs. Illustrated with Black and White Plates. First Edition/First Printing. DJ has shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities (DJ is chipped and worn with pieces missing from the edge of the DJ). Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine. Boards have light shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. The Peking to Paris motor race was an automobile race, originally held in 1907, between Peking (now Beijing) , then Qing China and Paris, France, a distance of 9,317 miles or 14,994 km. The idea for the race came from a challenge published in the Paris newspaper Le Matin on 31 January 1907, reading: "What needs to be proved today is that as long as a man has a car, he can do anything and go anywhere. Is there anyone who will undertake to travel this summer from Peking to Paris by automobile?" EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
