English translation by Edward Dacres. First published in 1640, this new edition, a readable and vigorous translation with a lively introduction, adumbrating the concept of "Machiavellian," a perceptive treatise on political leadership via criminal conduct. The final content leaf, "The Table of the Chapters of the Prince." Two owner inscriptions of William de Grey dated December 13, 1673 and August 17, 1677. Interior contents very clean and fresh in solid, tight binding. Raised bands, spine panels decorated in blind, all edges marbled. cover edges decorated in gilt.
