About This Item
Pier Damiano Armandi (1798-1855) served in the army of the Republic and the Empire , ought in Genoa, in Savona, then in all the Napoleonic wars, in the battles of Austerlitz, Vicenza, Wagram, Bautzen, where on the field he was appointed artillery colonel by Napoleon, then in Dennewitz, in Leipzig, in Hanau. When Napoleon fell, he went to Rome as tutor of the children of Louis Bonaparte. After 1831 and the amnesty of Pius IX he took part in the defense of Venice. Back in France, he was appointed by Napoleon III as imperial librarian in Saint-Cloud.
Rare. OCLC locates only three copies in North America: UC Berkeley, Harvard, & Univ. Conn., plus another six elsewhere Cambridge, Teubinger, Arco, Casanatense, Bern, & BN France.
