About This Item
New York, NY: Scholastic Book Services, 1971. Paperback. Near Fine. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. TW 1784. Braille Alphabet on Back Cover. Louis Braille was only 12 years old. And he was blind. But he made up his mind - somehow he was going to invent an easy way for all blind people to read and write. It took Louis 3 years to work out his alphabet of raised dots. With this alphabet, blind people could read as fast as other people. Today almost all books for the blind are printed in the alphabet called braille. Blind people read braille with their fingertips. This is his story. 80 pages. Some light rubbing on bottom of spine and 4 outside corner tips. Rear cover has a 1" crease across the bottom left corner and a 2" crease across the top left corner. A 1/2" circular brown stain on rear cover next to spine. Some pencil eraser head size indentations on rear cover..
