The first trade edition of this collection of 10 intertwined surrealistic poems by this Carribean poet, one of the foremost advocates of negritude, illustrated with spare drawings by Picasso, originally published in a limited edition of only 219 copies in 1950. Introduction and translation by Clayton Eshleman and Annette Smith. Bi-lingual edition with the complete original French text at the end. 130 pp plus colophon.
