Privately Published, 1950. map. Good. 0x0x0. Fold out Promotional Brochure/Map for 1950 Los Angeles County Fair. Measures 23.5' x 17.5' when unfolded. Folds into 12 panels on each side. Fully folded brochure measures roughly 8.75" x 4". In good condition. Bright orange and yellow pictorial fold-out brochure with map has a a 7" closed tear along the middle fold. Light overall scuffing and soling to brochure as well. Great black and white photos promoting "over 400 acres of enchantment." Highlights include "cavalcade of Stars of '50" with several black and white photos of performers, Horse racing daily pari-mutuels. "A $7,000,000 panorama of achievement presnted in a memroable setting' A nice piece of ephemera. The Los Angeles County Fair was first held in 1922. In 1933, the Fair became the first location in Southern California to allow attendees to bet on horse racing. During the Great Depression,, the Federal Works Progress Administration constructed new buildings on the site including the fine arts building, administration building, and several exhibition halls. During World War II, the Fairgrounds were used as a Wartime Civilian Control Administration assembly center. Over 5,000 Japanese Americans were held there in 1942 before being sent to internment camps. The Fair reopened following World War II in 1948. This brochure reflects the enthusiasm of post war Los Angeles.
