The fifth edition of Sir Walter Scott's historical narrative poem about Robert the Bruce, published in the same year as the first edition. Set in Scotland between 1307 and 1314, the poem covers the story of Robert the Bruce from his return from exile in Ireland, to his struggle for Scottish independence from English control at the Battle of Bannockburn.Interwoven with this historical narrative is a fictitious romantic subplot involving the love of one of Robert's supporters for his sister, Isabel Bruce. With the inscription 'Charles Gill' to a front blank, and a page of advertisements to the rear.A pleasing copy of the fifth edition of Scott's narrative poem. In a full calf binding, with gilt detailing to back strip. Light rubbing to back strips, with joints starting, but boards holding firm. Inscription to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned to perimeters, with instances of light spotting throughout. Good
