About This Item

Edinburgh: James Ballantyne for Archibald Constable; and Longman, Hurst et al., 1815. Leather. Very Good. 9" by 6". None. A very smart copy of the scarce second edition of Sir Walter Scott's narrative poem about Robert the Bruce. The second edition of this work, published in the same year as the first.Scott's narrative poem, arranged in six cantos, details Robert the Bruce's return from exile and the culmination of his struggle against English control at the Battle of Bannockburn. Interwoven with this historical narrative is a fictitious romantic subplot involving the love of one of Robert's supporters for his sister, Isabel Bruce.Retaining the original half title. With the armorial bookplate of 'Clonbrock' to the front pastedown. An appealing copy of the second edition of this historical narrative from Scott. In a full calf binding with blind tooling to board perimeters, and gilt detailing to the back strip. Head of front joint starting, with board holding firm. Otherwise, externally lovely. Armorial bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good
