New York, New York, U.S.A.: E. P. Dutton and Co., Inc., 1961. First Edition (Stated) . Hardcover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Author's personal narrative of his experiences while doing pioneering research for the USAF on high-altitude parachute design. He made a parachute jump from 102,800 feet in 1960 that was the altitude record until broken in 2012. After the book was written, he remained in the Air Force, flew F-4 fighter missions into North Vietnam, was shot down and was a guest at the Hanoi Hilton for nearly a year. He participated in the new record jump as a technical consultant. 249 pages. Shelf wear to dust jacket. Dust jacket in mylar.
