About This Item

Schocken Books, 1975. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Fair/Fair. Sheila Hawkins. The 1975 publication date I have listed is for the second printing. Dust jacket has a large tear along spine starting at head soon to become a chip. Also chipping at the tail and worn through the upper two foredge corners. Adhesive tape residue on back cover and tail of spine, a few spots on front, and inside pastedowns where apparently a mylar protector had been removed. Missing the FFEP and a stamp on back board verso has been blacked out. Although there is no smoking gun, it looks to be a library discard that someone tried to rehabilitate (with some success). There is shelf wear on bottom edges of boards and a flaw to the binding causing the first gathering to pull just a tad. Also opens readily to the pastedowns. Large swaths of th DJ and its edges are in fine condition, interior is clean except for where noted above. The irony is that this is one of those desirable collectibles that is relatively scarce, difficult to get with the jacket, and quite challenging to find in good condition; therefore, in this context this is actually a better than average copy. I have never seen the first edition. The early Routledge (1957) is nice but the later reprints and Shuter school editions are less appealing than the Schocken (first issued in 1968).
