About This Item
London: Country Life Limited , 1947. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good. 10" by 7.5". CF Tunnicliffe. A bright first edition of Terence Horsley's anthology of migration stories with illustrations by CF Tunnicliffe. The first edition, first impression of this work. Containing a series of tales of migration, telling of "the grey geese flying in from the snowy wastes of the Arctic, the duck finding sanctuary here after their journey across the sea, the salmon complete their mysterious life-cycle in our estuaries, and last, the Transatlantic airman battling against the hazards of storm and cloud' (excerpt from front fly leaf.) Written by Terence Horsley, inspired from his experiences as an airman and naturalist. Superbly illustrated with nineteen duo tone plates by CF Tunnicliffe, internationally renowned naturalistic painter of British birds and other wildlife. He is known for his illustrations to Henry Williamson's celebrated 1927 novel 'Tarka the Otter.' Collated, complete. Complete with unclipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally lovely with only light bumping to head and tail of spine, back strip gently faded. Front free endpaper was excised. Dust wrapper unclipped with some shelf wear, light darkening to spine, minor loss to head of spine, faint spotting to rear wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to occasional leaf, although pages generally bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
