Doubleday. Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good. Later printing of classic children's book written and illustrated by Dare Wright. The story follows the adventures of a doll named Edith, who lives alone in a big house and her new friend, Mr. Bear. The book is noteworthy for its striking black-and-white photographs, which were taken by the author herself. The photographs depict Edith and Mr. Bear in various poses and settings, and they give the book a unique and charming visual style. Later printing of 1957 edition with ISBN printed in book. 12.5" tall. Unpaginated. Laminated paper-covered boards. From private collection. Name printed inside book. Corners show light wear and their is a small abrasion along top edge of upper board. Dust jacket is yellowed along edges and shows a little rubbing and wear.
Synopsis
The Lonely Doll is the first children's book in a series by photographer and author Dare Wright. The story is told through words and photographs. It was first published in 1957, went out of print for years, and was reissued by Houghton Mifflin in 1998. It is in its 10th hardcover printing since then. Wright, whose own life was speculated upon as being reflected in this tale of a lonely, yet mischievous doll "adopted" by two bears, wrote 10 books starring Edith and the bears.
