The Log of The Flying Fish: A Story of Aerial and Submarine Peril and Adventure, Collingwood, Harry. Published by Blackie & Son, Limited, 50 Old Bailey, E. C. London, Glasgow, and Dublin. New Edition Circa 1895. 12mo up to 7½" tall., 384pp. with six full page illustrative plates by Gordon Browne; 32pp. rear publisher advertisement with full page illustrations. Green cloth boards illustrated in black and gilt to front and spine with silver titles. Front board illustration of the Flying Fish air craft startling African Natives; spine illustration shows diver with a knife. In very good condition with rubbing to board hinge line, corners and spine's tail and head. First few pages are partially loosened; rear hinge is weakened and otherwise contents are in very nice condition.
An early science fiction adventure originally published in 1887. "The Flying Fish actually surpasses all Jules Verne's creations; with incredible speed she flies through the air, skims over the surface of the water, and darts along the ocean bed. We strongly recommend our school-boy friends to possess themselves of her log." From The Athenæum. The Athenaeum was a London-based journal of literature, science, and the arts published in the 19th and early 20th century.
