New York: Knopf, 1931. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 14000 shelf. TWO VOLUMES. Stated first edition. Predates the one-volume edition. Exteriors are in poor shape -- ragged gray cloth, volume two has heavily cracked front joint. Both volumes are slightly musty from garage storage. Continuous pagination: volume one, 503; volume two: to page 993 plus index. Not foxed, no underlines or notes. Interior volume two: edges badly stained in blue ink after pg 969 to 993 plus 16-page index. 9-line affectionate lightly stained letter from Goldman to Stella [Ballantine] glued verso front cover of volume one, dated 1931 Paris. Scarce! By the famous Russian-born anarchist who is buried in Illinois.
