'Although herewith signed over to Eva Le Gallienne by the author, these books are really from Katherine Wheatley, who, I hear, has given me such a build-up (*-she called me an imp) to a personage I admire that I am tongue-tied as to a proper inscription. My favorite chapter is #18 on 18th century France & England. The idea that Eva Le Gallienne may be reading it gives me great pleasure - John Canaday, New York, July 1974.' Slipcase rough, split along 2 edges, exterior worn, interior stained, boards dampstained 1" along foredges, old mildew spots on few endsheets, texts clean, tight, G/fair.
